Nova Ponente is an Italian town of 3 925 inhabitants in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano in Trentino-Alto Adige.
Obereggen (which was translated into Italian in 1940 in "San Floriano", but has practically never been used) is a fraction of the municipality of Nova Ponente, located at 1,550 meters above sea level, under the chain of Latemar, in Val d'Ega and has about 900 inhabitants.
The toponym is attested for the first time already in 1330 as Oberhechen and then in 1767 as Ober Eggen.
It is the base of the ski area (and hotel area) Ski Center Latemar, which is part of the well-known Dolomiti Superski. The numerous modern facilities and the area in general are particularly frequented in winter, given the large number of ski slopes and sled runs.
The hamlet of reference is San Niccolò / Ega, a village only a few kilometers away.
The sanctuary of Pietralba is a place of Marian cult that arose in 1553 following the visions of an inhabitant of the country, the farmer Leonhard Weißensteiner. This sanctuary, located in the homonymous locality, is visited every year by numerous pilgrims devoted to the Madonna; among them there were also Pope John Paul I and Pope John Paul II.
Near the sanctuary, in the neighboring wood there is the hermitage of Leonhard Weißensteiner, where the apparition of Our Lady would take place. This is an interesting place also from a naturalistic point of view, for the view on the Dolomites and as a base for medium / easy difficulty excursions.
The reference hamlet is that of Monte San Pietro, a village at 1 kilometer.
