Location and context of this property:

Igls is a village in the Middle Inn Valley in North Tyrol, and district, cadastral municipality and locality of the municipality of Innsbruck. On 1 April 1942 the municipality of Igls was incorporated into both the municipality and the locality of Innsbruck; Igls only became a separate locality again from the 1961 locality register.

The village lies at about 870 m on a low mountain range terrace south of the centre of Innsbruck, at the foot of the Patscherkofel. In Igls the Ramsbach flows to the Viller Bach, and from there in the Sillschlucht to the Sill.

Igls comprises about 500 buildings with about 2000 inhabitants. Heiligwasser (pilgrimage church with alpine guesthouse) and the castles Hohenburg and Taxburg also belong to the village area.

The area of the district extends southeast up to the Patscherkofel, but ends somewhat below the mountain station of the Patscherkofelbahn. To the west of Heiligwasser, on the road to Patsch, lies Goldbichl, a 1064 m high foothill of the Patscherkofel massif.

In the southern forest of Igls lies a freely accessible glacier pot. Wandering signs refer to this under the term „Gletschermühle“.
